SPONSORED BY CHANCES CAMPBELL RIVER
Carol Chapman is a proud, lifelong Campbell River resident and Canadian who for nearly two decades has combined these two passions by spearheading the community’s popular Canada Day celebrations.
Years ago, she noticed celebrations were lagging and started a campaign to raise money for a fireworks display that now takes a back seat to no one one’s.
“The first year I raised huge, huge money,” she says. “Canada Day is my heart and soul.”
She has also made it a point that the event should spread throughout the community, from Campbellton to Willow Point, and that any one from any walk of life can find something to do on July 1.
“We’ve made every event for every kind of person,” she says.
The result has been a celebration that brings in people from beyond the community, attracting visitors from around the Island, as the long line of red tail lights heading south at the end of the day suggests.
Chapman credits the efforts of her team of eight people and partners such as the city for helping her make the event a success. Regarding all of her projects, she gives credit to the whole community for its help
Canada Day is just one of her causes, as she divides her free time with other charities when she’s not busy running her salon of 39 years, A Cut Above.
“I have four main fundraisers every year,” she said.
These are the Tour de Rock Cops for Cancer, the BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund, Paws for a Cause and Canada Day.
